Hyejung Baik, a native Korean born in Seoul, holds a Bachelor of Music with high honors in Flute Performance (Cum Laude) and a Master of Music degree from Hanyang University. She also completed a research program at Kyoto City University of Arts with a MEXT scholarship. Her teachers included Hyesook Yang, Soyoung Lee, Youngji Song, and Yoshimi Oshima. She earned Professional Studies Certificates in Flute and Piccolo at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, studying under Catherine Payne, flutist and piccoloist of the San Francisco Symphony.
Hyejung has received numerous accolades, including first prize in the Woodwind Quintet division of the Korean Youth Music Competition and first prize in the Wind Instrument division of the Russia Far East International Competition. She also won first prize in the Korean American Youth Cultural Foundation Competition and received the Presidential Citation for Excellence from Hanyang University. As a Kumho Young Artist, she performed a woodwind quintet recital at Kumho Art Hall.
She began her orchestral career with the Guri Philharmonic Orchestra and has performed as a guest flutist and piccoloist with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Seongnam Philharmonic Orchestra, Korean Symphony Orchestra, Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra and Chungju Philharmonic Orchestra. Hyejung is currently a music teacher at Coastline Christian School and a member of the Fernweh Chamber Orchestra. She enjoys reading, hiking, cooking, and traveling with her husband and two children.
